What is a Global Assessment Tool Inventory you might ask? These are assessment tools to be used by teachers, schools, districts and education policy makers to assess the level of global/international education that is incorporated into the curriculum. The Global Education Checklist created by The American Forum for Global Education is a tool to assess the level of global engagement by students, staff, districts and curricular material. I have used this checklist twice with better results the second time. The first time was for a graduate class in Drexel University's Global and International Education program. The second time was for the Teachers for Global Classrooms program. This is a very comprehensive and informative checklist because it provides a baseline for enhancing any curriculum with global learning. I would highly recommend this assessment for both South Philadelphia High School and the School District of Philadelphia.
Another useful tool is the Checklist for Teaching Global Competence from Edutopia's website. This is a shorter checklist that follows the four global competencies as outlined by The Asia Society and that are addressed in the page titled 'What is Global Education?'. This is a practical tool to be used by teachers in the classroom when developing a lesson or unit.
