This was my third trip to Morocco but the only one that was educational. In the past my family was privileged to have been invited to a friends wedding in Fez and prior to that I toured all over Morocco for my work in travel and tourism.
Each trip has only served to strengthen my love for the country and the people. They are warm, inviting and proud of their country, culture and history. I could not have had a better partner teacher than Abdelatif or our Moroccan group leader - Meriem. The long history of diplomacy that exists between Morocco and the United States is evident in the genuine hospitality that was extended to all of us on the trip. Each experience I have had in Morocco was exceptional. It was always impossible to say no to invitations to homes and fabulous food. Walking through the medinas is analogous to time traveling to a medieval city. And while their education system continues to be quite rigorous, the government is making strides to incorporate more opportunities for success and access to university as is obvious with the programs to reach students in rural areas that are developed by the Moroccan Association for Teachers of English.
